(Updated) GAME Stores to Distribute X & Y Goodies in the UK

Updated to add promotion end date and Pokémon details.

Wait a minute… GAME is still alive and well?!? Seems like it, since The Pokémon Company International has once again announced it's teaming up with the UK-based specialist retailer to once again offer a distribution event promoting Pokémon X and Y and the new XY Trading Card Game Expansion. Colour me surprised.

From Friday 4th April until the 30th September, anyone who brings their 3DS into any GAME store across the United Kingdom, with a copy of Pokémon X or Y inside, can claim a free Pokémon for their game. Players with Pokémon X can receive Magmar free upon request, whilst those with Pokémon Y copies can claim Electabuzz. Additionally, both will be holding their respective Trade Evolution item – the Magmarizer and Electirizer respectively – meaning these free Pokémon can be traded to a trusted friend to obtain their evolved forms – Magmortar and Electivire!

Sources claim both Pokémon will be offered at Level 30. Electabuzz has the ability Vital Spirit and the moves Low Kick, Shock Wave, Light Screen & Thunder Punch. Magmar has the ability Vital Spirit and the moves Smokescreen, Fire Spin, Confuse Ray & Fire Punch.

As if that wasn't enough, there's a bonus for fans of the Trading Card game too. At each store while stocks last, you'll be able to get a Pokémon TCG: XY special sampling pack containing a card from the new expansion along with a special "holographic" Pikachu card. Who doesn't love free stuff?

Aomei celebrate festive season in style: Giveaway contests, software updates and more

Aomei Technology – a known but not entirely famous company good at creating low-cost software solutions for managing, partitioning, converting and backing up hard-disks and other physical storage solutions, that are often closely resemblant of similar offerings by more reputable companies but cheaper (and occasionally not as well-translated) – have really gotten into the Festive Spirit this month; and they want to spread the joy with people worldwide.

As a way of celebrating the run-up to Christmas and the New Year, Aomei are running three separate promotions giving gifts to fans of their products, which are described in “waves”. The first wave involves sharing information about an Aomei product with your friends or social network contacts and then emailing them with proof of the share; and brings a chance to win a 50% off voucher for any Aomei product, valid for one month.

The second wave, which expires shortly, brings a chance to win a free copy of one of their five key products Read the rest of this entry »

August 1st – 3rd, 2011 ONLY: Get Aomei Dynamic Disk Manager Pro (worth $39) for free!

This giveaway has now expired. Make sure you don’t miss another giveaway – add Technically Motivated to your bookmarks; visit our Forum; subscribe to our RSS Feed; or follow us on Twitter and keep on the pulse on all the latest freebies, tips and happenings in the world of technology.

Aomei Technology is on a roll recently, releasing new versions of programs rather regularly as well as inviting Beta Testers to try out new software. This month, Aomei – a Chinese-based company who work mainly on data management solutions; and who you may recall have been responsible for a giveaway on this very site a few months ago – have been working on a software called Dynamic Disk Manager, which they claim is the company’s “first dynamic disk management program”.

Dynamic Disk Manager is designed to “perform all the tasks needed under Windows-based systems to deliver optimal performance”, and allows you to convert basic hard drives to dynamic disks, which you can then resize to make as big or as small as your drive allows, add them to Software RAIDs, and more – all with easy to understand steps and no data loss. Technically Motivated were one of many websites approached to beta-test the software, but unfortunately I was unable to due to my laptop recently having to be sent in for repair due to the ventilation failing, and I only today got it back. However, Aomei has reportedly had a huge amount of interest overall in testing the program, and based on the feedback, have determined it is almost ready for public release.

Today, Aomei have announced the public release date for the software – Dynamic Disk Manager will go on sale starting August 1st. However, as a special treat to thank all the interest in the software, starting on the release date and until the end of August 3rd – that’s three days – Aomei are giving away the Pro version of the new Dynamic Disk Manager program – valued at $39 – absolutely free – and anyone can take part, even if they weren’t a tester! Click here to find out how to take part in this Giveaway…

Five Days Only: Get Aomei NTFS to FAT32 Converter Pro Edition 1.5 ($39.99 value) for free!

Update: This promotion has now expired. Make sure you keep coming back to Technically Motivated, and consider subscribing to our RSS feed so you don't miss another great giveaway!

Only a couple of days ago, I reviewed Aomei NTFS to FAT32 Converter Pro Edition 1.5, described by the developer as "a professional file system conversion utility, which is able to convert NTFS to FAT32 and convert FAT/FAT32 to NTFS without loss of data. With it, backing up data in advance is not needed; the partition larger than 32GB will be converted successfully; compressed and encrypted files featured with NTFS can be decompressed and decrypted automatically. It is safe and reliable." I gave it a total score of 4 out of 5 stars, saying it was a great program that does one job and excels at it, but is very limited in audience – and I also expressed disappointment at the nonstandard installer.

If you think you have a need for the software but don't want to pay $39.99 to find out, now's your chance to take advantage! Between May 18th and May 23rd, 2011, Aomei Technology – developers of NTFS to FAT32 Converter Pro Edition 1.5 – are giving away full, unrestricted licenses for NTFS to FAT32 Converter Pro absolutely free! What's more, the license entitles you to use the program on up to three computers for a single download – and you can get as many licenses as you have email addresses.

All you have to do is go to the promotional page, and enter your email address where prompted. Aomei Technology will then email you a download link to the software, and you can download it and install it for free! Aomei guarantee they will not share your email address with anyone.

Don’t miss your chance to WIN a full licence of Revo Uninstaller Pro!

Revo Uninstaller is a program designed to help you remove unnecessary files on your computer that many programs – and even Windows itself – create to help them work, but don’t delete after they’ve exhausted their usefulness, clogging the computer. It also helps to uninstall stubborn programs that may not actually fully disappear from your computer after you’ve clicked its own “uninstall” button – sometimes even if the program has been uninstalled already – and can even help you securely erase your history and other confidential data to improve your privacy. In fact, here’s a list of all the features the Pro version is capable of:

    • Real-Time installation monitor: for complete uninstall
    • Forced Uninstall: remove stubborn programs
    • Advanced scanning for leftovers: remove remnants of programs
    • Multi-Level Backup System: safe uninstall of programs
    • Junk Files Cleaner: remove unnecessary files
    • Autorun Manager: control Windows startup
    • Windows Tools: useful Windows tools in one place
    • Browsers Cleaner: clear Internet browser history
    • MS Office Cleaner: clear Microsoft Office history
    • Windows Cleaner: remove junk files from your Windows
    • Evidence Remover: erase permanently confidential data
    • Unrecoverable Delete: erase permanently files and folders

Software review website Freebiest have teamed up with VS Revo Group, makers of Revo Uninstaller, and are giving away the program for free, but there’s a catch: only 35 licences are being given away. The licences will be given to 35 random participants of the giveaway sweepstakes – one per user. To get your chance, you have to subscribe to Freebiest’s feedburner feed with a valid email and leave a comment on the giveaway page with that email. There’s only three days left, so get in there fast!

    Thanks, Freebiest!

Microsoft’s “£400 of freebies” for new start-ups is a joke

StartUp Britain is an initiative to help small businesses in the UK get a foothold in technology. Clearly this is a good thing in principle – though some have suggested that some of the sponsors and backers of this Government-applauded but privately backed venture are rather in it for themselves, judging by the help and offers that have been made public.

Chalk up Microsoft to this list. Apparently wanting to prove their care for and commitment to businesses, the company is offering a number of “free technology resources”, which they claim to be “worth up to £400 per company”. At first glance, this sounds like a great idea – but take a closer look at what’s being offered, and you’ll find all is not as good as it seems. Read the rest of this entry »

[EXPIRED] Get Easeus Data Recovery Wizard for free!

    Update: This giveaway has ended.

I’m a little tied up today with personal and professional matters, so sadly I don’t have time to write in my usual style of highly detailed, informative posts today. However, I saw something earlier today that I thought was at least worth a passing mention. Technology website GHacks has scored an exclusive giveaway deal with CHENGDU YIWO Corp, and are giving away unlimited, fully licensed copies of Easeus Data Recovery Wizard free!

Easeus Data Recovery Wizard is a recovery software for Windows that supports file, partition and complete recoveries of data. The software retails for $69.95 but is completely free of charge as part of this giveaway. The features include:

    • Recover deleted or lost files
    • Disk recovery after hard drive crashes, accidental formatting
    • Recover data from unformatted hard drives
    • Recover files if the partition is corrupt, not accessible anymore
    • Supports not only hard drives but also USB drives and storage, e.g. digital camera cards.
    • Supports FAT12, FAT16, VFAT, FAT32, NTFS/NTFS5 file systems
    • Create disk images to assist in the file recovery

The giveaway is for the latest version of Data Recovery Wizard (V5.0.1). It comes with only one restriction: you cannot update the software to any future newer version, or the license expires automatically. The software is automatically registered on install, so all you have to do is go to the giveaway page on the GHacks website, download the program, and install it. It is not known when or if this giveaway will expire, so take advantage while you can!

January 25-28 ONLY: Get Aomei Partition Assistant Professional Edition 3.0 for free!

Update: This promotion has now expired. Make sure you keep coming back to Technically Motivated, and consider subscribing to our RSS feed so you don’t miss another great giveaway!

Popular with computer geeks, programmers, and those people who like – or have good reason – to run multiple systems on the same computer, partitioning is a very useful trick for everyone to know. What is Partitioning, you wonder? Well, in the simplest possible terms, partitioning is a process by which a single hard drive can be split into multiple parts, or combined back into fewer parts, each of which can be made to use a defined amount of space on the drive, to allow you to organise the drive better. By splitting your drive like this, it’s possible to do things such as have one computer run two or more different systems (so you could have like two different flavours of Windows, or one Windows and one Linux or MacOS, etc), or you can make it so that one part of the drive is the main system and the other is personal files… there are many possible uses.

For a limited time, a company called Aomei Technology is offering one of their star programs, Aomei Partition Assistant Professional Edition, for anyone to download – completely free! This program is, as the name suggests, a Partition Management software. You can use it to create, move, resize and delete partitions, change the “format” of each partition, and several other features. There are also two new features just in to the latest version – Disk Copy and Partition Copy. These allow to copy a whole partition to another partition or another drive; or even copy an entire drive to another location – this could come in very useful for keeping backups in case a partition or drive starts to fail, which can happen with age. Free WashAndGo 2009!

Updated: In a previous edition of this post, I forgot to include the features list for WashAndGo 2009, and also some images were broken. This has now been corrected – sorry!

Secure File Erasing Tools are seemingly ten-a-penny these days, and over my time in Technically Motivated I’ve covered two such tools already – Heidi’s Eraser, which is freeware and my personal favourite, and the commercial O&O SafeErase, which is very competent and comprehensive Erasing tool. If you still aren’t clued up on what Secure Erasers are or why you may need them, check out my post on why deleting a file often isn’t enough.

WashAndGo 2009 is another commercial secure file erasing tool, but one that provides more than just file/folder secure deletion capabilities; WashAndGo 2009 allows users to clean temporary files, clean browser data, clean application data, etc. Interestingly enough, it even has a file unlocker and program uninstaller.
