If you are planning to leave a comment on any post within the main Technically Motivated blog, there are a few house rules you are expected to follow. Failure to follow these rules will lead to your comment being removed from our system without any notification to you.

First of all, with the sole exception of the website field if it is shown, the entirety of the Contact Form must be filled in for the comment to be successfully submitted. The main reasons for this are spam prevention and to allow each post to remain individual to the users who posted them. Note that if a comment is posted by a non-logged-in user, part of this form requires an email address to be supplied – this MUST be genuine, and must not be a “disposable” email address, again for reasons of spam prevention. Do not worry, Technically Motivated will NEVER share or publish your email address – we hate spam as much as you do.

When posting, the name that will appear on your comment is the one you set to appear on your Profile, if you are registered and logged in; or, if not, will be the name you supplied on the Comment form. For privacy reasons, you are permitted to use a pseudonym, so feel free to make up a name if you want to! However, your name must NOT contain copyrighted terms, and must also not advertise another website, product or service.

Don’t post personal details, except where required by the form, and DEFINITELY don’t mention things like your telephone number, real life address, etc. Think about it – would you want a stranger calling or turning up at your door? Always use your common sense while posting. Remember: No-one here is your nanny.

You should keep your comment relevant to the actual topic of the post you are commenting on, for the most part at least. If you want to make an entirely off-topic post, consider making a topic on our Forums instead. This way, new visitors will feel more in tow with what’s being discussed, and can also join in easily. Also, the point of your comment should be clearly understandable – don’t be vague, and try to use proper English. If the moderators don’t understand it, they may not allow it to be shown on the site.

You are allowed to link to external websites, if you feel they are relevant to the point you are making; however, blatant advertising, or linking to unrelated websites is not allowed. Also note that all the links posted in the comments are automatically given a “rel=nofollow” tag, so search engines will NOT index them – this is to prevent people simply posting links to gain more prominence on said search engines; and if you attempt to circumvent this, you will be prevented from commenting in future.

Please note that to allow us to properly moderate the website, comments may not appear on a post immediately after posting. If your comment contains excess links, advertising, words or phrases common to spam posts, or has been marked as spam by our automated spam checker, your post probably will need to be pre-approved before it can appear. (Posts that have the latter are unlikely to even be approved)

Finally, keep it clean. Unnecessary expletives, harsh language or abusive comments to any person, persons or websites, references to illegal activities, sexual references, or links that lead to anything containing the above are strict no-noes and will result in your comment being immediately rejected. This is a family friendly website, so if you aren’t sure if what you’re saying is appropriate, consider this before you post: “Would you want your mother/father/significant other/friend(s)/children hearing this?
